TrueNAS Installation and Backup with Veeam

Hi everyone,

I have a homelab set up at home, and I plan to install TrueNAS as a virtual machine on my ESXi host. Additionally, I am currently using Veeam Community Edition for backups. I would like to know if I can use Veeam to back up the TrueNAS virtual machine.

Thank you!

What would be the point doing that? You read the guides available on how to virtualise TrueNAS and not lose data?

You need to have a dedicated controller/HBA and configure PCIe passthrough to the TrueNAS VM, then connect your storage drives to that HBA.

In that configuration these drives are not accessible by Veeam. But there are backup methods built into TrueNAS. For the VM itself it is sufficient to backup the configuration.

If you use virtualised disks you will lose data. Don’t.
