Truenas Scale 25.10.1 smb users borked

With the latest release of TrueNAS Scale 25.10.1 i just realized because I needed to change the password for an SMB user, I noticed that when I tried to change the password, the “ssh shell” and “ssh access” options were checked and I couldn’t save, saying that the home path wasn’t configured. At this point, I deleted the user and created it again, and if I select only SMB access and set a password, it doesn’t allow me to save, giving me this message: “SMB users may not be configured while the SMB service backend is unitalized.” Thinking there was a problem with the SMB service, I tried stopping it, edit it, and saving the settings again, but at that point it wouldn’t start again, saying “[EFAULT] string indices must be integers, not ‘str’.” Restarting the server, the SMB service started again, but I can no longer modify users with SMB access. Among other things, I’ve noticed that all my users who only had SMB access now also have SSH access, which I never set up. I should point out that the SMB service is standard; I only changed the workgroup and administrators group; everything else is default.

Is this a bug in the build and/or is there a way to allow me to edit SMB-only users again?

Is there a way to have smb back to behave normally ?

Thanks

I also notice that all my smb shares are set as “legacy share” as was described in the release notes, maybe the problem is also releated to the type of shares. My shares rely on ACL. I don’t want to breake anything bacause atm all shares are working.

I fear to touch my shares… i tried with a share changing from legacy to default and show the same error “[EFAULT] string indices must be integers, not ‘str“

For now, I’ve solved the problem by reverting to version 25.04. I sincerely hope that when things are moved to legacy, there’s a wizard that migrates things to the new format without losing functionality. I certainly can’t start redoing all the SMB shares.
