TrueNAS Scale File Extension Not Working On Other Network

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get my clients to share video files to my TrueNAS drive via a web browser (like Google or Firefox). It needs to work the same as Google drive essentially but for my NAS.

So I downloaded the File Browser app via TrueNAS scale and am able to access and upload via my network, but my client, who lives in another state, says the connection times out when I shared them a file link.

Has anyone had difficulties with this? How can I get remote users to upload to my NAS via File Browser? Any help would be amazing. Thank you.

The only way to achieve a “Google drive experience” for your client Is to expose your service to the world… Something you really don’t want for your security (and TN itself Is not designed to do)

You should explore other way, like setup a VPN (Tailscale, Wireguard/wg-easy, …), so your client can access your local network and you can mantain an acceptable security level

That’s totally fine; they don’t mind the risk. Could you show me how to share folders the google drive way?

maybe i wasn’t clear, but the risks are for you, not for them. Exposing your nas to the net lead to a lot of trouble, don’t take this decision so lightly - and without get some info about .
BTW, i can’t guide you step by step, but there are some tips in topic like this →
