External access

Hi everyone,

New on TrueNAS Scale, i have one question. I configured my TrueNAS and everything with NextCloud for my documents, Plex to watch videos on my Apple TV and Immich for my pictures / videos. It’s okay on local.

But how it’s possible to access to my NextCloud or Immich on my smartphone outside of my local network (same for my wife) ?

I haven’t a hostname and prefer using DuckDNS but i don’t find any tuto

If some guys can help me ?

Thanks a lot

Unless you have a good understanding on how allow access to your network devices to the internet works, I would advise against it, as if you accidently open it up to the outside world, you will have trouble.

With that said, VPN systems like tailscale can make this fairly easy, I use tailscale across 2 locations and 20 devices and it works quiet well and is free.

Okay for Tailscale. It will be just for my wife and me and using it on 5 devices, normally it’s okay.

It’s not complicated to install it ? (Not the app of course)

Other thing. How it will be possible to share some albums photos to my family ?

Tailscale is not complicated, and, you can use the app on your devices to give you the access. You can tell it when on this or that wifi network that is local, don’t enable the vpn, but as soon as off your local network, do enable it. Thus, you have seamless access to your data wherever you are without any effort once set up.

As far as sharing albums, sounds like I’d ask that in a nextcloud forum for advice.

Thanks

Nope on Immich, you can share albums too.

I used this tutorial to get duckdns set up: Quick and Easy Local SSL Certificates for Your Homelab!

I currently use this setup with tailscale and it works great! Having proper URLs and SSL certificates is amazing.
