TrueNAS shuts down by itself

Hello guys,
First off, I’m a newbie in TrueNAS, not in general PC stuff

I’m having a weird issue and I can’t seem to find a precise answer on why this is happening or how to fix it.

So my specs are : R5 2600, 32GB 3200MTs, A320M-A-PRO
And I’ve tried almost everything with reseating the RAM etc., I even had a “shim_lock protocol not found” and I fixed it by disabling “Secure boot” in my BIOS

However, crashes are still happening, weirdest thing is my PC still stays on and I have the menu still appearing,

I also have a last question, since I use Windows, SMB files is great and easy to use, however once I connected a user to it, I can’t seem to “disconnect” it, how can I?
For example, my user is for admin purposes but what if I want to test what another user would see?

Any help is appreciated thanks!

A picture is worth a thousand words, and would give a level of detail that this description doesn’t.

  1. What specific crash? What error messages?

  2. What menu is still appearing?

  3. What sort of “disconnect” are you expecting?

Hello,
Thanks for the answer

  1. My error “shim_lock protocol not found” was fixed by disabling “Secure boot” in my BIOS so I think I’m good and don’t need to show you the error code again?

  2. The generic menu of TrueNAS

  3. So basically, I’m moving a large number of files (Approx. 3TB) to my NAS and sometimes it stops and I have to physically reboot my machine since I can’t even access the TrueNAS Web UI.
Although my machine still shows the menu & works correctly.

Would a reinstall of TrueNAS be necessary? Would it wipe the drives?

Sorry if I’m not really precise to you, tell me if you need more information and thanks for the help you’ll provide!

The menu being displayed means nothing. Is the system responsive from the console when it is unresponsive from the network?

New guess - something is overheating but without any detailed error messages it cannot be anything more than a guess.

Also consider that your mainboard have a realtek integrated nic, and they are not so reliable with Truenas

Yes

Well my temps are very good

It doesn’t go above 50C under load.

So should I change my motherboard? Or is there a temp fix?

if you have a pci-ex slot free (also the 1x), an Intel dedicated 1gbps nic should be pretty cheap (15-20€ max), and you don’t need to change motherboard

Neat! I do have a 1x, I’ll grab a net card then, would it be enough to fix it?
I mean, if you have other solutions*

I can’t say for sure that this will be enough to fix the problem, at the same time considering the low price (and why not, the fact that if the attempt fails, probably you can return it without spending anything  ) why not try.
For sure, before buy it, ensure that your system is rock solid, like running a long memtest - a cpu stress test - another OS

Quite often the Realtek NIC is the problem. An Intel NIC generally solves this type of problem. If you lived close by, I’d give you one, I have a few I’m no longer using but they were a lifesaver to replace the Realtek NIC in my TrueNAS systems. Now I’m using an Intel 10Gb NIC, but that uses up more than a x1 slot, unfortunately.

Ok thanks for the heads up, is there any specifics for the controller? Or does any Intel NIC fixes it?

To make an update, after a month of using an Intel NIC, I haven’t had issues with TrueNAS disconnecting so thanks!
