I made a different thread refering to some network issues I wanted to try and resolve. That was a massive fail, so I am trying something else for the time being.
In any case I updated my version of Truenas to the latest v25.04.2.1.
From the version I was at to this one. It appears that a ton of changes were made to how VMs/ Containers are handled. The version I was on before just had a section for “instances” which appears to be the new containers section.
The VM I setup under the “instances” tab is flaky after a power down. I have been having some storms roll through that are enough to knock the power out.
So I am trying to clean install a VM with Ubuntu Server that will run Pi-Hole through the Virtual machines tab instead. But the performance just from trying to run the installer is crap. Which is very odd because I have created this exact same VM before and I know my server has plenty of power to run it.
Specs are as follows:
Xeon 2407-V2 Quad core
96GB RAM
HBA with 7 2TB in Z1
My actual issues are stupid high CPU usage even just sitting on the text installer screen 95% usage at max. When the CPU gets high in usage the VM to all appearances just freezes up and will not respond to keyboard inputs. I have been able to proceed a few steps by making the inputs I want and waiting a few minutes. If I wait long enough the VM will take the inputs.
I have no idea what the heck is going on. I dedicated 1-2 GB of RAM to the VM. My CPU mode is set to host passthrough. I originally just dedicated 2 cores to the VM but after I saw the high usage I added 2 more. But no difference, I have changed the disk type and NIC from VirtIO to their respective alternative settings but no difference.
Does anybody have any clue on what is going on or what changed to cause the performance to turn to crap.
