What level of dataset is safe to share please?

Hello,

I’m a bit confused with the guidance of the official documentation about folder sharing.

It states:
“When creating a share, do not attempt to set up the root or pool-level dataset for the share. Instead, create a new dataset under the pool-level dataset for the share. Setting up a share using the root dataset leads to storage configuration issues.”

I think this means that in a structure /pool/dataset-level1/dataset-level2, it is not allowed to share /pool/dataset-level1. The first level that can be shared is /pool/dataset-level1/dataset-level2.

Am i right please?

No. What you can’t share (and TrueNAS won’t let you share) is /pool.
