Wierd question from truenas

why does TrueNAS 25.04.2.1 community edition ask why i am shutting down
and how to stop it from asking

The shutdown reason prompt is part of recent enhancements to support various security frameworks used by enterprise customers. It’s common in regulated environments to require a reason for a system shutdown. TrueNAS release notes have mentioned here and there over the past few releases various “STIG” related improvements, and this is part of that.

As far as I have seen so far it cannot be disabled in Community Edition. There are some discussions and requests about that elsewhere on the forums.

There a request you could vote on. I unfortunately am the only vote right now. It is not a high priority item but maybe it will be adopted, most likely not with the current response.

There are no questions when shutting down via IPMI or SSH.

We had a form to fill whenever a floor server needed to be rebooted.
Included, date and time, reason, schedule, graceful/emergency. It was the be performed from the servers Shutdown menu and given a reason within there. Most people with clearence on the floor to shutdown/reboot a server did not have cli or ssh access.

Well. I have. And every “Community Editon” admin has as well (ssh at least).
