ZFS Failed to load all drives 4/20 only Have I lost all my data!!
All other drives show they pool =NA
I have very important data for court stuck in there.
I see all the drives.
Since I upgraded from 25.04.1 to 25.04.2 I lost my sas and had to change controller to 9300 now I cannot retrieve them.
Have I just lost all my data !!
I am starting to panic now as this data was put here to keep it safe.
Just confirms Truenas has changed drivers that are incompatible to both my LSI SAS 9286-8e. yes I have two of them one as a backup and they are not cheap at the time.
So yes I am upset that the drivers on the new update do not work with either of them.
I am very upset that ixsystems tech support are so bad they just want to deny any issue with update. Like it’s a house policy of denieal.
So after no help from anyone I had to get down to resolving this issue myself costing days of time and money.
after purchasing and installing the LSI SAS 9300-8e This controller was found. This confirms the driver issue of 25.04.2.x .
Now the drives have been found but the pools are messed up. only 4 drives assigned to pool out of 32 drives.
After much diagnostics I removed all Multipathing cables.
Now this solved the problem.
I need to now know how to enable multipathing but my understanding is that scale no longer supports multipath.
So concludes this issue as There is no documentation or warning about both these issues and ix Systems denies everything unless I purchase there system. This behaviour is a huge downgrade to where they used to be. So my trust in ixSystems and truenas has been broken after many years.
I think I will be moving to Xigma as they seem to be more trustworthy and the technical support more honest and helpful.
As far as i can remember there were warning in the release notes of the version that removed multipath support, but since that was 2 or 2 1/2 years ago it may be harder to find and is no longer mentioned in the current release notes.
What i found was this statement in the old forum from 2023:
The lack of multipath support is also brought up in the migration guide:
Controllers in HBA/IT-mode have always used a different driver compared to MegaRAID cards. There is a whole section in the hardware guide dedicated to the issues RAID cards can cause and it clearly advices not using them.
If I were to guess, I would say that it’s unlikely that TrueNAS releases are validated against hardware running RAID equipment due to to the aforementioned issues and the fact that none of their hardware products ship with RAID hardware.
In summary, the TrueNAS team has been open and honest about the dangers of using RAID gear with ZFS, and so has the community.
