Greetings Fam! I am getting ready to move my NAS over from a fat box to a 4U rack mount (home lab) doubling my physical storage capacity (2x 4bay hot swap caddies) and will be connecting it to a 10Gb ubiquiti aggregate switch. I need to purchase a 10Gb card for the NAS and was hoping someone could make a recommendation that works well with TrueNAS?
Not sure if the hardware matters much, but here is what I got. It’s old and I just use it as a file server to hold my media.
The recommendations haven’t changed in years: Intel X500/X710 series, Chelsio (T520), Solarflare NICs.
Whatever you can find refurbished for a good price (but mind fake Intel cards). Solarflare and Chelsio are now typically below $50 en eBay, and Intel cards can be evn cheaper if you know the part numbers from Dell/HP/Lenovo.
That made it an easy one. I guess searching the (old) forum would have retrieved the 10G primer, but then you’d have enquired whether it was still current (yes!).
Thanks for NOT having asked ChatGPT and the like…
