When I upgraded to 25.10.1 from 25.04.26, I found myself unable to login. I was greeted with an “Wrong username or password. Please try again” error, when the password was certainly not incorrect. After some trial and error, I managed to get into the machine by using the root with the one-time password generated using the CLI. From there I could login to the GUI, but I can’t change any users password due to an error “users: membership of this builtin group may not be altered.”

If I roll back the server to 25.04.26, I can log in with the default admin account’s old password from before I reset it, I get the same error when I try to change the password after logging in there. I can’t even create a new admin user, when I try to login with that new user it also gives me a “Wrong username or password. Please try again” error.
Dear god what the hell.
