3-2-1 Backup for a TrueNas Scale Server

Hi everyone,
I have a quick question about implementing a 3-2-1 backup strategy for a TrueNAS Scale Server and I’m hoping someone can give me a tip.

As a rule, I have always implemented a 3-2-1 backup strategy for the systems I have implemented so far, which also included regular full backups. So I always had full backups from the last 4 weeks, last 3 months, 4 quarters and annual backups available for the restore. If a full backup was corrupt or could not be restored for some other reason, I could fall back on the next older backup. Of course, I also used snapshots and CloudSync.
Out of the box, this doesn’t seem to be feasible in TrueNAS Scale, is that correct? I no longer have the option of creating periodic full backups and can therefore no longer switch to an older full backup in the event of corrupt data etc.
So that means I would have to implement this with the help of a third-party APP, right?

I just have a bad feeling about only having a backup version of my data and possibly being left out in the cold in the event of a software or hardware failure.
Is there any way to create periodic full backups under TrueNAS Scale?
Thank you for your tips
Kind regards
Chris

For what Is my experience, TN offers a lot of way to perform backups, the real “challenge” Is to find the right compromise between

  • costs
  • effort
  • reliability needed
  • availability of backup in case of need

And this Is different in every use case.

At the end of “my personal journey”, i became aware that having in the house a secondary system, where push snapshots weekly, was the right answer for my most important data. Can’t be considered a “full remote” but neither a local, because main Nas Is the house and the backup one literally in my garage :grimacing:
In my case, for save space, retention policy Is the same for source and target… but in your case this aspect can make a lot of difference.
For remote copy, my Nas and my parents one pulls dayli data each other via tailscale
