I am about to set up a truenas scale system here at home.
I would like to minimise my power usage and as I will not be using the NAS all the time, I would of course like to shut the system down eg 2 hours after last access.
I know I will be able to use wake on lan to turn it on again, but is there a solution that will turn it on automatically?
I have a small server running proxmox, where I can run something ™, that will see when a network share is being accessed.
I think my question might be a bit clumsily written but I hope you can make sense of it

PS my simple workaround would be to just turn the system on as needed via WOL, but I would like to make it transparent for me.
No, there’s nothing like you describe that comes prebuilt.
I personally use a WOL-script to wake my gaming rig, accessed by an app-icon available whenever I want. Given a short delay the system is then available for use.
I suppose you could use home automation to get a WOL-script to trigger when you do something you typically do right before you want to access your shares, whatever that may be.
that is what I would do from the onset. I already have homeassistant set up with button turn on my main computer so I can access it via vpn and rustdesk when I am not at home.
I will do the same with the upcoming NAS.
I was just dreaming of a more transparent way of doing it
