Use truenas to remote control iot plug?

Im looking for a relatively simple way to save power since my ds4243 burns a 1/4kw simply existing. I was thinking of hooking it to an iot plug switch and using something like home assistant to turn it on, wait until it boots (maybe a check for all disks before proceeding vs a simple timer), import the pool, do it’s thing, export the pool, and once everything is confirmed good2go shut off the plug. I would only have it run once or twice a month to do backups and replicate my smaller main pool so I’m not too terribly concerned with cycling the drives and other such pitfalls. Does this seem viable and not dumb? Something like this is completely out of my wheelhouse so opinions and suggestions are appreciated.
Of course the simplest way would be to just get rid of the shelf altogether, but most of the usage comes from the drives themselves which aren’t the most efficient so it wouldn’t be worth the hassle imo.
