I’ve been having trouble with my NAS lately (I only really use it for plex media and the plex server) and today both drives in a vdev show as degraded. I’ve setup a cloud sync task for Backblaze b2 to try and prevent data loss while I wait for new drives to come as I was planning on expanding my capacity anyway.
However, the upload speed is incredibly slow, ~500KiB/s and will take over half a year to complete the full ~8TiB. My internet speed is 200-300Mbps. Anyone have any advice or how to fix this? A few years ago I did a google drive backup of a couple TiB and it took a day or two at most.
Occam’s razor would say your degraded disks are the reason for the slowness - if they’re failing and you’re having other symptoms of “trouble”, then it’s the same source.
If you want to know for sure though, you need another pool/storage on the same TrueNAS system and test a cloud sync task from a different source. Preferably a well-known-to-be-healthy disk.
I tried running the task on the drive that has the plex server on it (separate SSD) and the speed was the same. The previous troubles that I refer to were my system periodically being disconnected from the internet without any reason that I could see. My best guess (and chatgpt’s) was that my torrent client was the network somehow. When it happened the system would still be powered on but I could not ssh into truenas from my desktop and pinging the IP got no response. I would have to restart the system manually for the it to resolve
