Can I change a VM name?

I have a VM named DietPI. It is actually my Secondary DNS server. Can I edit and change the VM name and description without messing up anything else?

The description is purely cosmetic. You can change it as often as you like.

For the name, you’ll have to change it in 3 places:

  1. Inside the VM.
  2. In the TrueNAS UI.
  3. In your primary DNS’s name tables.

I understand. The one I was worried about is changing the name in the TrueNAS UI. I wanted to make sure that it didn’t cause references to the dataset to be messed up.

The VM devices aren’t tied to the VM by name, but by the VM ID.
