Can someone point me to a guide for using vlans with 25.04?

I’ve been trying for hours to get a lxc container to use my vlan with no luck. Does this simply not work? Maybe 25.04 should have stayed in testing…

Well I managed to get it working though I’m not sure if I’m doing it the right way.

Please do not create multiple threads/posts asking the same question. I deleted the other thread since this thread has a result.

Thank you

ok, but would still love to have someone either say “guide doesn’t exist” or point to a guide for doing it the right way.

I have not seen a guide, did you check the resources section? Honestly, I don’t use vlans so I’d be the last person to have this answer. Did you google it? There is a lot out there.

oh yeah. I googled tons and watched tons of YouTube. I finally got it working by creating vlan interfaces and then creating bridges for each vlan interface. But that was trial and error. Given that TN has supported vlans in the UI for some time I expected more resources.

I hate to say this but iXsystems likes to offer service contracts, where I’m certain they can provide that information without any problems. I Google a lot as well, sometimes my answers come from a bunch of seemingly unrelated sources but so long as I am able to consolidate the data and generate a good reliable conclusion, that is all I care about.

Honestly, it was good that you were able to make it work. Maybe, if you have the time, you could generate a guide? I created a Drive Troubleshooting Flowchart (link in signature) and a few other things which periodically help others out, but the largest benefit was to myself as I learned a lot. I like learning if it can benefit me. But if you could make the guide, post it in the resources, then it can help others that were in your shoes.

Cheers

I hear you. I have no problem writing a guide (or video) when I’m sure I’m doing it the right way. But when I’m fumbling around and getting it to work in entirely the wrong way, then I don’t want to be illustrating my ignorance with a guide. :). Yes, I realize they sell support contracts. I think the biggest problem is that it’s changing so fast right now. Hopefully as it selltles down, more guidance will come out. And if I get to point where I feel confident, I’ll def contribute!

I like the documented procedures, not video and the only reason is because it is easy to update the document when things change vice pulling down a video and recording a new one.

You probably have seen it before, obsolete YouTube videos on how to build a TrueNAS system.

This is a personal opinion, not one by anyone else. But if/when you crate the procedure, I know it will be well received.
