Can’t boot Electric Eel installer - unable to enumerate usb device

Hi I’m kicking the tires on TrueNAS and figure I’d try out Electric Eel. Unfortunately I’m having the following errors on boot of the USB I created.

usb 2-1: device not accepting address 2, error -62
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 3, error -62
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 4, error -71
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71
usb usb2-port1: unable to enumerate USB device

I assume there’s either something wrong with my flash drive, or a bios setting that needs tweaking, but I’m not sure where to start.

Thanks in advance! I’m sorry if this is a dumb question.

What tool or method did you use to create the bootable USB drive?

Have you tried the USB drive in a computer to see if it mounts and the data is accessible? Drive may be bad.

These are great suggestions, thank you.

I tried both dd and Ventoy to create the usb media, but that’s a great idea to try booting it on another machine.

Just to make it a little easier, you shouldn’t even need to try to ‘boot’ from it. If you plug it into a powered-on computer, are you able to mount it and browse the files?

I’ve never heard of Ventoy until now, but a quick look at the page it seems like it should work. Does it have an option to validate the image on the USB after it’s copied? If so, have you tried it? Maybe everything seems peachy but is corrupt on the USB.

Good luck.

I downloaded the TrueNAS-Scale 24.10.2 and the TrueNAS-13.0-U6.7 iso. I placed the iso files on a a known good Ventoy USB. Both Scale and Core fail to install.
TrueNAS Scale never makes it to the Grub loader screen. TrueNAS Core completes the install but fails with an fstab error.

I followed the advice from GitHub with out success: “[issue]: The TrueNAS SCALE ISO image of 24.10.1 does not boot (same goes for 24.10.0.2) #3069

So it is detected but the install fails?
