I got an email saying the TrueNAS 25.10 is available to upload. When I tried to update it gives me an error message.
Check your network and DNS configuration.
Check your router’s settings.
What DNS are you configured to use? Did you set any rules to block certain connections from your TrueNAS server?
Pardon my ignorance, but where should I be looking for the DNS settings?
You want to go to System → Network, then check the settings. Here is my screen:
You may also want to see if https://update.ixsystems.com/ is accessible from your network.
Check your router settings as well. I know Quad9 DNS had an issue with update.ixsystems.com in the past.
My screen looks different from yours. When I click on system here is what I see.
I do have a Network tab to click on but I don’t see any DNS settings.
I can access the manual updates.
Okay, you will need to click on Global Configuration and select Settings. Then, you should see a screen on the side that looks like this:
The highlighted section is where you put in the DNS servers and the gateway.
If you’re not sure what to set them to I recommend that you set the primary DNS server and Gateway to the IP of your router. Your router will in most home setups be able to pass DNS requests on to whatever your ISP uses.
@Phak1 any updates on this?
I’m sorry for the delay, life has gotten in the way, but I back at it.
I added the Primary DNS to TrueNas and it now allows the update. It wants me to update to 25.04.2.6. Should I follow the update path, or can I go directly to 25.10?
Also should I save my configuration each update? It gives me a warning about SSH keys and secret seed which I don’t understand.
Update problem is solved. I marked the solution for others to read.
This is another topic now.
If you want the best practice opinion, you should always backup the config and secret seed to be saved somewhere safe. You won’t need it until you need it.
If you’re using encrypted datasets, you should also backup the keys.
Thank you all for your help. Update went smooth with no issues!
