Cannot Access TrueNAS Scale GUI iOS 18.0.1

Hello! First post here since I didn’t have any luck on the subreddit. Running TrueNAS Scale Dragonfish 24.04.

I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 18.0.1 (now 18.1) and have been unable to access my TrueNAS web GUI on any of the browsers on my phone. I am able to access the GUI on my desktop PC as well as my MacBook Air. My wife, who is on the same release of iOS as me, is also experiencing the issue. This is also impacting our ability to log into our Nextcloud instance.

We both keep getting “request timed out” errors on both TrueNAS and Nextcloud. I am logging in using the same IP addresses I’ve always used.

Has anybody else experienced this issue? Nothing changed from a network perspective, just the version of iOS on our phones. Any help is appreciated. We just want to get back to being able to back up our photos and being able to control the server when not at a desktop or laptop.

my only datapoint is my own phone & system, same iOS as you and no issues with Nextcloud (local network & Tailscale access) or TrueNAS UI, I am running ElectricEel, there is nothing I can think of which has change since 24.04 which would change what you are seeing.

I’ve seen quite a few iOS reports about the VPN changes in 18 causing challenges.

Maybe I’ll switch update trains then and see if it helps. Will that mess anything up as far as apps are concerned?

It’s a significant change from DF to EE, I honestly do not think the TrueNAS version is the cause. I’d look at iOS.

If the issue is also affecting Nextcloud, there doesn’t seem to be any way it could be.

Yeah, this is now what I am thinking since this wasn’t working when I was on Core as well (recently migrated to Scale hoping it would help fix itself).

I’ve tried pinging to my router and that connects fine. However, when I try to ping to my TrueNAS server I get either “No Route To Hose” or “Request time-out” errors.

looking through the web, the only response people with this type of issues seem to get is to reset their iPhone Network Settings. Hope you find a solution!

Thanks for the help. I found the same suggestion and reset the iPhone Network Settings but that did not help.

You’ve tried pinging the IP of your router from your Iphone and it works, but when you try pinging the IP of truenas it fails correct? Have you tried pinging another host besides the truenas machine?

Yep. Here’s a list of what I’ve tried. The one ending in .4.1 is the server’s main IP. The one ending .4.79 is TrueNAS (Nextcloud just being on a separate port ).

I can get to everything but the one ending .4.79.

Update: Got Nextcloud working using this awesome video. Theoretically I could do it to the GUI I guess.

Wait so you couldn’t even ping the IP, but it’s an cert/SSL error? And you solved it by getting a domain name and a certificate for it? In that case you should take a look at this video or just import the certificate authority from TrueNas into iOS so it recognizes your default cert.

I really don’t know what it was, that’s the thing. I’ll def take a look at the video.

But yes, only because I’ve been looking to do it for a while never could figure it out when I was still on core. This error on the local network and me going through cloudflare were two independent ideas that happened to coincide.
