Problem/Justification
Some popular APC UPS models throw bogus warnings with the current NUT version (2.8.0).
I can’t include links, but a discussion and detailed explanation of the problem can be found at Network UPS Tools’ “nut” Github repo, under the issue #2347.
A fix was shipped in NUT 2.8.3
Impact
Wrong UPS warnings will no longer appear
Please update the NUT version to 2.8.3 or later in the next release of TrueNAS Scale to fix this issue. The UPS models affected (APC Back-UPS BXxxxxMI) are very popular and this issue might affect a significant number of users.
Yep, should be updated. The current version 2.8.0 is ancient. I can’t use my UPS with NUT because it doesn’t have a supported driver in this old version.
I would like the latest version, and the driver list in the TrueNAS GUI updated so I can use the new APC UPS driver so I can then read all of the sensors.
Just added my vote, I have a modern APC SMART UPS and it requires a newer version of the software and the additional hardware option putting into the GUI.
ITS 2025 can we PLEASE finally get updated NUT ??? We need at least NUT 2.8.4/2.8.5 so we can use actual modern UPS devices. VERY disappointed to see that also 25.10 RC1 STILL has ancient NUT 2.8.0
No matter what, I’ve already adapted it to the latest version myself and rewritten the ups.py plugin from this repository. The modified ups.py plugin enables system notifications for NUT version 2.8.4, so I can use it regardless of any updates.
The NUT version we use is linked to the Debian version, the good news is Trixie does upgrade it to 2.8.1-5 which will be available in Halfmoon. Closing as an upstream issue.
