Compatibility of WD Rep Pro 20TB

Are there known issues with WD Red Pro 20 TB drives wrt Mini X+? I found this thread from Aug 2023 (can’t put a link here… the title of the post is “WD Red Pro 20/22TB - qualified?”, it is from “Perry The Cynic” started on Aug 23, 2023).

But since then only 22TB were approved and 20TB were not. Is there a particular reason for that?

I am thinking of migrating from Synology. I originally bought four WD Red Pro 20TB drives for it without realizing that they are incompatible with the Synology’s NAS. It ran fine for a while, but eventually there were too many instabilities for my taste.

Now that I’m thinking of switching, I want to understand if it is better for me to get compatible drives. But it is fairly expensive to upgrade all four drives, so I want to
gather feedback first. Appreciate your opinions.

Thanks,
Andrey

You should be fine with those drives. iX Systems doesn’t qualify all drives and may just have skipped the 20TB size.

When you joined the forum, you got a PM from TrueNAS-Bot inviting you to take a tutorial. Find that PM and take the tutorial to gain increased permissions in the forum.

ZFS is compatible with any size. The only question is whether the MiniX+ provides sufficient cooling for this particular model—I do not have an answer.

Nor do I, but it seems unlikely it would handle the 22 and not the 20.
