WD RED 6TB drive recommendation

Running TrueNAS-13.0-U6.1 on a FREENAS-MINI-2.0 with 8 x 6TB WD Red drives.

SMART test threw a checksum error so I’d like to get a replacement drive ready. Current model drive in use is WD60EFZX and it seems like it’s being or has been phased out (although you can still find it on Amazon and Newegg which I would prefer to avoid).

Anyone know which new model is recommended? Last time I ordered though WD they sent a WD60EFAX which wouldn’t mount (turned out to be a SMR drive not CMR) so I’d like to ensure I get the correct drive first time. Thanks.

Is the WD60EFPX a good choice?

Red Plus should be good. But 6 TB looks smallish by now. See whether you could find a bigger drive for the same money.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Need to stick with 6TB unless I want to replace all the drives. From what a I understand, if I add a 10TB drive to other 7 6TB drives, only 6TB will be used of the 10TB…is that correct?

Correct. But, as time goes, you will likely end up replacing all drives anyway—be that due to age and wear or due to needing more space.
