Been having issues with my plex server cant get it to install on core. Seems everyone is recommending going to scale. Is there anything i need to do with my storage i have now i don’t want to loose anything. Is it as simple as installing scale on my server then plugging in my hard drives without loosing anything. Anything i need to watch out for. I cant loose anything i have on these hardrives im currently using with CORE.
Post your TrueNAS version and a detailed listing of your hardware, pool, jails, VMs, etc. The better the details, the better the advice.
If I’m not mistaken there was a form of encryption on core that isn’t supported on Scale. Otherwise, if you don’t have encrypted pools, you can test if Scale works for you by installing on a boot drive (a usb is fine temporarily for testing) & confirming it can find your pool - do NOT update the zfs on your pool until you’re certain Scale is working fine.
Backing up your config (just in case) is always a good idea.
Makes me nervous I’m just going to order a big enough hard drive to store all my stuff then just renew my entire server from scratch
Always a good idea to have a backup before doing major changes - I’d love to reassure you & say everything will be fine… but I feel like that’d detract from how good it’d be to back things up.
