I have 2 NAS boxes, one running scale with 2 mirrored drives in a single pool, and newer hardware running core (new hardware but drives from older system that got upgraded). I am going to do a clean install of scale on the new hardware, but I want to move the pool (6 2TB HDD in a RAID 5) to the scale box where it will become the backup pool. The new hardware will then get the 2 mirrored drives and will serve as a fileserver as well as a general purpose application server (plex, minecraft, and others as I go). This new hardware will replicate to the backup server, which is generally lower power usage and using an older celeron/ LG1511 Mother board, which has been rock solid for going on 10 years.
I am reading that the pool import just needs the disks, and I won’t need a configuration file. The mirrored pair has all of the files from the original pool, so everything exists in 2 pools currently. I plan to export the 6 disk array, shut down the server, physically move the disks and bring up the scale box to import the pool (it will have both pools at this point). Then I’ll export the mirrored drive pool, shut down, move the pair into the other box, do a clean install of scale, and import the existing pool.
Does this seem like a solid approach? Any red flags with this?
Scale 24.10 on old hardware with new 2 drive mirrored array, Core 13.0-U6.4 on new hardware with older 6x2TB drive raidz2 array.
