Default user 568 permissions missing?

i just upgraded from core to fangtooth via the update train, installing plex media server and it cant see my directory tree. the default user of 568 for apps has zero permissions to access my SMB share and i cant seem to edit permissions for this user to access my mount points.

any guidance here?

You don’t edit permissions for the user, you edit them for the share. Giving a user (or group) access to a share as a matter of the share’s permissions.

You should also check what uid the app is running as. IIRC plex may run as 1000 (I don’t use the app myself). Some of these things depend on the upstream developer.

Okay, I will try to go through everything again tonight. I just added apps user to the SMB share permissions but it didn’t change anything so maybe I’ve got a path validation issue as well?

I might make a video of my config here and put it on YouTube and Link it here. It’s been several years since I’ve set up a server and back then it was core. I remember making jails, ACL permissions, pools… This is very different though

I took this before going to work. Any advice is helpful. I’ll dig into it more when I get home. I am assuming that some setting from true Nas core is screwing up what’s going on now

Apparently I can’t include direct links

Does this help?

Specifically this excerpt and how it explains to set up host paths with specific ACLs:

ixVolumes do not require setting up an Access Control List (ACL) and Access Control Entry (ACE) in the app configuration settings, but host paths do. After entering the path inside the container in Mount Path , select Enable ACL . Browse to or enter the path to the dataset in Host Path . Click Add next to ACL Entries to display a set of ACE fields. Use ID Type to select whether the ACE is for a user or a group. Enter the UID or GID in ID and adjust the permissions level in Access .
