Degraded Pool

Sept. 12 - I’m running TrueNAS Scale ElectricEel 24.10.1 on an HP Z420. Unfortunately, my pool is degraded. I have (had) 4 disks in a RAIDZ1 and just received the following message:

Pool Jarvis_4x12TB state is DEGRADED: One or more devices has been removed by the administrator. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state.
The following devices are not healthy:

  • Disk 15010095029358028260 is REMOVED

I am very new to TrueNAS and computers in general so I will try my best to follow but it will take me a while. I have tried to online the disk to no avail, it still says removed under Storage Topology. It gave me no SMART errors before this happened. I tried using a different SATA cable, power cable, and SATA port on the mobo and still have nothing.

Any direction is very helpful and appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Do you have a spare drive to start a replacement?

Thanks!

Haha sadly not at the moment, I do have some drives on the way to start that process. Is it best to shut down the machine until a replacement drive arrives?

I pulled the drive out and put it into a different PC to check the smart data. I currently have 8 pending sectors and more importantly, the helium level is at 1. I assume this means the drive is toast.

Do you have a backup of your pool data? I would backup your important data asap, in case of another drive failure. Your pool and data is at risk until you get the replacement drive in and complete the resilver.

Yes that makes sense, thanks for the reminder. My backup is almost complete and then I might shut it down until I get the new drive.
