Amateur here. Hoping to get help diagnosing a drive that has error on one particular file that leaves my pool in an “unhealthy” state.

  pool: HC320
 state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data
        corruption. Applications may be affected.
action: Restore the file in question if possible. Otherwise restore the
        entire pool from backup.

I have scrubbed several times, but the error does not go away and a ‘zpool clear’ does not work.

Those are snapshots. Do you need to keep them? Do you have a good copy of the file IMG_9014.CR2 elsewhere?

I do not need to keep the snapshots and have a good copy on a cold storage drive. Is it as simple as just deleting the snapshots and just copying and replacing that one file? Do I need to run a scrub after that?

This is one of those problems you can get by using a Stripe for a pool. No redundancy here. Just make sure you have a good backup of your data if you plan to run like this.

Your drive looks good. I did notice that your head loading is about 50% higher than the number of hours for this drive. While that is not a big deal, typically we try to steer people towards running the drives 100% of the time, but everyone has different needs.

I use Syncthing that mirrors the entire drive between two machines at home. I can pull a copy from there too, but don’t know if that would also be “corrupted” (sorry, I don’t quite understand this stuff well).

That drive is set to the default, Always On so not sure what the head loading issue is? Could it be from rebooting the machine a lot? There were many 10-restarts per days when I was trying to (and still trying to) debug my way through network issues and what not. Maybe it’s just my imagination and it’s always been the case I notice louder ticking sounds and vibration through the metal case chasis.

It likely is corrupt too, but open the file, see if it seems fine. I don’t know what a .CR2 file is, but maybe it will work. And that is good that you do have backups. Better safe than sorry.

Canon Raw picture file.

The original is corrupted, which may be insignificant if it just results in a single weird pixel, or devastating if the file is internally compressed and everything after the wrong byte is off. Check the external copy.
To clear the error you need to delete IMG_9014.CR2 in the pool and all the snapshots it’s in.
Consider expanding the pool to a mirror so ZFS has redundancy to correct such errors.
