The issue I’m facing is that I have SMB shares setup for folders in the essentials and non essentials folder, and on Windows the files/folders inside the drive just suddenly disappear. Windows knows it still exists because if I’m in the middle of copying files, it’ll continue, but I can’t get into the folders anymore.
I could be in the folder sometimes and trying to open a file will fail because “it doesn’t exist”, and if I refreshed the folder it’ll suddenly be empty. After refreshing the folder in file explorer a bunch of times, or reconnecting the drive, I can see the folders again. It really never makes sense why it happens. Does anyone know what’s wrong?
I have two Windows computers and this happens on both of them. I have it connected to my iPhone as well, and while I can’t click through folders as fast, I’ve never had them disappear on me.
Please help, this is extremely annoying and it’s a huge time waster. I’ve never had issues downloading hundreds of gigs of files from the internet to my TrueNAS system, or with any copy operations from my computers once they’ve started.
Which version? I’ve seen that Goldeye has issues with smb being flaky, the latest dot zero version that just launched. If I were you and on this cursed release I’d roll back to the latest Fangtooth. Check your boot options and see if Fang is still available and boot to it, see what happens.
If you’re on Fangtooth right now and this suddenly happened, I don’t know. But again, you may have at least one prior release you can try booting from.
Unfotunately I literally just built my NAS last week and I installed the latest software. The server is pretty established at this point and I don’t believe I can roll back the software since I created the zfs pools with the latest software. This has been an issue since the beginning but I thought it would go away as I kept setting things up.
Still don’t know your version but Goldeye literally just came out. I’m gonna blame it since you just installed something fresh.
You might be able to save your config file and reinstall Fangtooth and import the file but probably not. Again if this was me I’d wipe it and start over. Goldeye is so new the paint is still drying. Fangtooth is solid and proven.
Hit the download page scroll past the first entry. You want the “previous stable version ”…
Or you can put up with it and wait for the dot one update that’s coming in a few weeks that will probably fix Goldeye but I haven’t been following that close.
I’m on 25.10.0, I already checked the previous version thing but mine is blank. I understand it’s available only if you’ve updated from a previous version
What does it require to apply the fix? Could I not just apply it manually or select a different update control on TrueNas? Any idea on when this fix is coming out?
eagerly awaiting for this fix because it’s been tough ingesting media I’ve been trying to upload to the NAS. I tried manually updating using the ISO to go back but TrueNas wouldn’t let me go backward, unless you’re talking about flashing an older ISO to my flash drive and reinstalling TrueNas.
I’d rather wait if the update is right around the corner, I don’t want to figure out how to reconfigure everything and maybe find out my zfs drives don’t work with the old software
Same issue, also truenas has stopped showing up in the network browser but shares and unc path are still accessible. Could be a windows thing though because I installed linux on a minipc yesterday and it auto discovered the server and could access any share no problem.
