For Apps is it better to use SSD or HDD

I have a small TrueNAS SCALE for personal use. There are already 5x1TB HDDs and 120GB SSD for boot.
I was hoping to be able to install apps on the SSD, but I see that it is not possible.
I can still mount another disk and I have both a 2.5" HDD and an SSD, both 500GB.

Which of the two is better to use?

Unless you do a few unsupported twerk you cannot use the boot drive for anything else. Running apps or virtual machines is best done so on SSDs.

Definitely use the 500GB SSD for both the apps and their active data - and replicate it to HDD as a backup.

OK, I’ll use SSD. Many thanks.
