TrueNAs scale - using lots of apps

With a limited number of PCIe slots and lanes etc to 4 NVME drives

Best approach here would be to use an SATA 3.0 SSD (Or mirrored x2) for TrueNAS OS and push all the apps/VM’s onto the NVME pool?

Is that what happens automatically? Do you have to create an apps pool manually? Where does the apps pool normally live?

Cheers

You have to manually choose a pool for the apps.
I use a single ssd for boot and a nvme mirror for app storage.
But as long as the apps don’t run on hdds, even regular sata ssds would be fine.

awesome - that’s really helpful
Where does the app data go? …partic if say it involves large storage requirments like Frigate
Do you direct that also (so onto yr HDD pool)?
I was planning to have all the apps and their data on a Raid Z1 ZFS 4x NVME’s pool…
Cheers

Thats a matter of your choice. The App itself is installed on the app pool - but you can within the app configuration store data anywhere on (or even off) the NAS
