we had a broken pipe and we were out for 2 weeks. when we got back there was a pool of water that destroyed many things including our freenas.
we pulled out the 5 HDD and discarded the system we bought from ixsystem many years ago.
what is the cheapest replacement i can buy to host the 5 HDD running truenas software? i had it as ZFS setup before. anything in the low hundreds? doesnt have to be the brand name
TrueNAS Mini series from iX Systems?
Cheapest is whatever system you can find that can handle the hardware requirements and has 6, guessing SATA?, ports. 5 for your HDD and one for boot.
i wish i could afford that right now. unfortunately i cant. i was hoping for a non brand alternative that is ready to go out of the box?
You can put the disks in any NAS box that will allow you to install TrueNAS.
Or a PC with 5 or 6 sata connectors. Do you have a PC?
The cheapest option would be to buy a second hand pc/server off ebay.
QNAP, asusstor etc, all do make NAS boxes which can have truenas installed… but you need to make sure the specific device will work. etc.
this sounds better and more affordable.

how do i check this?
That’s the trick. Search these forums, reddit or the internet for examples of others making it work… or ask about specific devices, or recommendations.
will do. thank you!
Any PC with 5 (most lkely 6) SATA connectors will do.
Check are for pre-built NAS boxes.
