Help setting up SMB shares

Hello.
I’ve been using freenas/truenas for years and I’ve never figured out how to properly set up my SMB shares.

I’d like to have 1 big pool of about 20tb and multiple folders and shares that share the same pool.

Something like:
Photos
Movies
Downloads
Music
Etc

If I set these up as datasets then my Windows PCs show them all as having the full amount of space as the pool and each one has zero used space to begin with… But I’d like them to show the pool’s total used/free space the same as Windows shares would if the shares were located on the same drive.

I’m sure this is probably just a configuration error on my part but I have not been able to figure out how to do this.

Any advice is appreciated.

Okay with some testing I think I’ve finally figured it out.
I’m using the latest Truenas scale.

I created a test dataset and shared it. Then from a Windows PC I created the folders I wanted to share within that share.

Then I shared those sub-folders from Truenas and assigned the appropriate permissions, etc.

After transferring some files to the sub-folder share test1 I can see that the sub-folder share test2 shows the same amount of used space on my Windows PC.

I’m not sure if this is correct way to do this but it seems to be working.

If anyone has any input or advice on this scenario it is well appreciated.
