How to debug GUI problems? (GUI gets stuck)

Hi all, I’m new to TrueNAS, and I am sorry if this is a basic question. I have built a server for testing the OS before I start using it with real data. I wasn’t sure if I should create different topics for each of the issues I found, but I thought I should first ask about how to debug them to see if I can figure them out by myself.

I am running TrueNAS SCALE Fangtooth 25.04.2.4 (currently no updates available).

In my testing, I found the following issues, which are basically the GUI getting stuck in different views:

  1. Recovering Config: I tried changing the boot disk with a clean TrueNAS installation (same version) and recovering the configuration of the previous boot disk in System → General Settings → Manage Configuration → Upload File. The problem I found was that the process got stuck at 25% saying “Running database upload hooks”. However, after 20-30 minutes, I refreshed the page, and it seemed to have loaded the config correctly (or at least part of it) because it added the main pool, the dataset, the SMB, and the user I was using in the SMB.
  2. Installing Apps: When I go to Apps->Discover Apps->Custom App or instead I try to install one from the catalog, I get to the page SERVER_IP/ui/apps/available/stable/ix-app/install and it gets stuck at “Please wait…”. The only way I was able to install an app was by clicking on the Install using YAML and pasting a simple Docker Compose.
  3. Virtual Machines: When adding a new VM, I can’t get past the GPU step. The GPUs dropdown shows a loading circle and never shows any value. Which prevents me from moving to the next step.

How could I get more visibility on what is happening in these cases?

Thank you so much in advance!

Did you do RAM and CPU test of your server before installing TrueNAS?

Full hardware details and how you set up the pools / VDEVs may help too. You shouldn’t see GUI problems as you described. It sounds like you have problems with your underlying system, but that is just a guess at this point
