Can you have multiple replication tasks from the same source to the same target? I thought you couldn’t. And even if you could, that’s triple the replication traffic, and this is an offsite server.
Re turning this into a feature request, this is an issue that keeps coming up:
- Managing snapshot retention period on replicated snapshots | TrueNAS Community ← 2024, no conclusion
- Issue with multiple replication tasks for the same data | TrueNAS Community ← 2021–2022, no conclusion to the part asking for different retention times
- Onsite Backup - Different snapshot retention time on replication target - #18 by winnielinnie ← 2025, just silence and a suggestion to make a feature request
- Tiered Remote Replication Tasks - #13 by Johnny_Fartpants ← a few months ago where it was discussed that multiple replications tasks don’t work
and in fact, this was filed for a feature request last year: [Not Accepted] Set different retention times for each snapshot task within replication task
So I thought I’d check in to see if this had changed, with the hope that surely this would have been an added feature by now.
Is the most straightforward solution to erase TrueNAS off my remote server, reinstall it as a generic Linux server, and then use zrepl?
