I’m wondering how to transition a TrueNAS X10 system from TrueNAS SCALE Enterprise to TrueNAS SCALE Community without having to do a full re-install of TrueNAS SCALE. Can I just delete the /data/license file and reboot the system?
Here are the details of our system.
We have a TrueNAS X10 (single controller, not HA) system running TrueNAS SCALE 25.04.2.6 whose support contract recently expired. The system is five years old, so iXsystems won’t extend the support contract. The web GUI reports “Edition: Enterprise”, presumably because it sees the /data/license file with an expiration date from a few weeks ago. The license file doesn’t enable the “Containers” or “VM” features. I would like to experiment with those features and also keep the system from complaining about the expired license, so I am thinking that I could delete the /data/license file and reboot the server and then the web GUI would report “Edition: Community” and then the “Containers” and “VM” features would be available.
Does that sound like a good way to transition from TrueNAS SCALE Enterprise to TrueNAS SCALE Community? Thanks for any help you can offer.
