Hello
My NAS is a 4 drive RAIDZ2 on commercial hardware (HP Microserver gen8) and continues to work flawlessly. I have one VM which I use very rarely and is easy to reinstall from scratch, and I have half a dozen official apps which I updated prior to the first of June.
One of them, Frigate, uses a USB TPU and an Nvidia graphics card (a Quadro P620 which nvidia-smi
in the container tells me is using driver 550.127.05). It took me some time to get the P620 working properly (various things to do with its UID not being properly detected by TN although the details and the workaround, recorded in various threads within the forum, now escape me).
The machine’s main role is as a simple backing store for static file storage, with a bit of MP3 streaming and hobby fiddling about. The occasional “internet facing” side of things is handled via Tailscale.
Since starting with TN (Bluefish, in the spring of 2022) I have upgraded each time a new version has been stated as suitable for “General” use, and I am now on ElectricEel-24.10.2.2. I see that Fangtooth 25.04.1 is now suitable for me but the various changes from 24. to 25. regarding “instances” and so on have confused me and caused concern, perhaps misplaced.
I am particularly concerned not to spoil the working Frigate app I now enjoy, meaning that I need to rely on my transition to Fangtooth resulting in the USB Coral TPU and the Nvidia graphics card working as per Eel.
I realise I might not need to upgrade but I would like to do so in order to keep abreast of inherent security and stability improvements.
Please can I seek advice from experts here: should I stick with my current Electric Eel version or should I upgrade to Fangtooth?
