I haven’t really messed with my NAS in a couple years. I saved everything to an external HDD and shut it down due to some HD issues. I have since fixed those issues and now want to re-implement my NAS. I am currently on the latest version of CORE, is it worth upgrading to SCALE.
Note: there is no data on my NAS to worry about.
If you are using NFS, then don’t upgrade to Scale. See Bad zfs pool performance switching from core 12.0 to scale 24.10
Core Is near to his endlife, sooner or later will be necessary a sidegrade fore most users… but for the moment he’s still receving high security hotfixes.
So, IMHO, considering that Is not so fast the sidegrade migration path, and if you don’t need to run apps or have particulary needs… probably you can stick with Core for a bit more… But if your plan are different you should evaluate seriously to Scale
Thanks for the responses. I’ve actually decided to go with SCALE because I want to learn how to program and learning more about Docker seems like a good path to take for this career. Maybe learning docker won’t take me anywhere, but if I build my own environment at home, it could help me get a job in the future. I also don’t want to mess with the main OS of my NAS too much, so the CORE being close to end of life is a bit off-putting to me.
