Issues Installing TrueNAS on R720 with H710 in IT Mode

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Dell R720 from eBay and decided to install TrueNAS on it. After some research, I learned that I needed to flash the H710 RAID controller to IT mode, which I successfully completed. I also flashed the BIOS bootloader for the H710 without any issues. However, I’m now encountering problems during the TrueNAS installation process.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve done so far:

  1. Flashed the latest version of TrueNAS to a USB flash drive.

  2. Plugged the flash drive into the front USB port of the R720.

  3. Installed a PNY 240GB SSD into one of the drive slots.

  4. Powered on the R720.

  5. Accessed the Boot Manager, selected BIOS Boot, and chose the front USB as the boot device.

At this point, I can see the SSD listed as a boot option, which suggests that the H710 was successfully flashed to IT mode.

After selecting the bootable USB, the following screen appears:

If I wait long enough, the system eventually boots into the TrueNAS installer. However, during the installation process, I encounter repeated I/O errors. The installation never completes successfully.

Does anyone know what could be causing these I/O errors? I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions to resolve this issue.

Thank you in advance!
