New Install Crashes in AHCI Mode

Hey so, I am a new user and im trying to install TrueNAS Community 25.10.2.1 to a Dell Optiplex, i currently have a NVME drive that i want to install TrueNAS and a HDD where i want to put the data in. But for some reason, every time i try to install TrueNAS, no matter what i change, i get a problem. If I :

Install via AHCI i get an error saying “Failed to import boot-pool to bare metal”

if instead disable the Controller and Install i can boot up but can’t find the drive when making the pool;

And i can’t even install The OS via RAID because the installer can’t even see the Drive.

If someone could help me understand and fix one of these so that i can have the NAS fully working i would apreciate it.

Don’t try to use RAID mode with TN, ZFS need direct access to the HW.
You should try

  • wipe completely the NVME for the boot pool
  • disconnect the HDD during install

then in bios

  • AHCI mode
  • disable secure boot
  • also try disable fast/quick boot

If you provide the exact model of your pc we can for sure be more specific

Im currently trying to use an Optiplex 5040sff as the NAS. I also updated the bios to the newest version.

Ok i wiped the NVME completely and disconnected the HDD during the install and it didn’t give me a boot-pool error anymore so i consider it fixed

Glad to know it was enough :smile:
