Well I’m in the BIOS now, I turned off EMS console redirection, which I’m expecting will just like the console redirect to the serial port like normal without any secret code word. I’ll get a USB stick flashed with 24.10 and get on with this.
Turns out the ESM was how I was getting any kind of console out. Turning that off was unsmart.
Got out of that with a BIOS reset. Up and running with 24.10. 
Switching to scale also fixed the issue where I couldn’t see the console after boot started. I see the whole boot process and the TrueNAS console menu.
