New Install hangs during initial boot

Why is this happening. I recently upgraded my hardware and moved from Core to Scale. I now have spare hardware and I am installing Scale. The typical process …

  • d/l install material (iso) - TrueNAS 24.10.2.2
  • burn to usb
  • boot to usb with new pc
  • install from usb to mirrowed SSDs
  • boot from SSDs

But … it hangs right here …

Other details,

  • GPU installed, motherboard vga is dead
  • Supermicro X11SSL-CF
  • bios is 2.2 (from 2018) … might need a bios update?
  • picture above is from 24.10.0.2 (last night), I tried again with latest 24.10 iso

Out of curiosity. are you trying to use Secure Boot?

Check this out:

There may be others but it is saying the cpu microcode is out of date.

Umm … I think the answer to that is NO.

I did see that in my googling about the freeze and some of the messages I can see. The answers I see are to insert an option into ??? … but … how do I get to the code if I can’t get it to boot?

UEFI - built-in EFI shell?

Can I just say that I hate bios :frowning:

Better verify it instead of guessing (?).

There’s nothing especially unusual about your motherboard, so it’s very likely to be a BIOS setting, or possible something weird going on with your boot device.

Secure boot: disabled.

I am going to say BIOS setting as I swapped out the new boot device for one that worked a few days ago … and got the same issue.

Next Step: Update BIOS and review the settings.

Or … it could be that someone forgot to plug in the ethernet cables. :frowning:
It booted quiet happily to TrueNAS menu once I plugged them in.

That is funny and strange at the same time.

I don’t understand why it wouldn’t boot just because the network cable wasn’t connected.
You certainly wouldn’t be able to connect to it from a client computer, but TrueNAS should still boot to the Console menu (and there let you know it couldn’t acquire an IP).

That is something I can test.
