Network access after update from 24.04.2.5 to 25.04.1 failed

Hello all,

having read all corresponding information, I used the update option in my 24.04.2.5 version. From the offered options, I have chosen the update to 25.04.1 directly, skipping the 24.10.2.2 update.

I was waiting during the update procedure, but after more than one hour, there have been no change in activity, so I rebooted the system by switching power off and on again. Now, I can’t get local network access to the system.
Try getting access using SSH prompts “network error”, too.

I have already searched for any suitable thread in this forum, but couldn’t find any.
Any recommendations or links?

Thanks in advance

Try Proxmox…

How should Proxmox help me with my problem? My TrueNAS OS doesn’t operate on a virtual machine, it’s a physical server.
I am a Newbie regarding Proxmox. I just read about it, but never used it.

Of course, I would be able to newly set up my NAS using an USB boot stick, but isn’t there another way to solve my problem?

… I have read the prerequisites for installation of Proxmox. There is a warning, that existing data on selected disks will be deleted. That is not what I want!

If you can, connect a monitor and keyboard to the TrueNAS system and see if it will boot to the console menu screen. Select the option 1 from the menu to configure network interfaces.
You can then delete existing configurations and set it to a unused static IP address on your network, which should allow you to regain access. I have not always had success with this but it’s the best I can come up with. Maybe someone else has a better way.

You normally shouldn’t skip upgrade levels as these levels are sometimes different enough to cause issues. Go level by level and verify after each level, the system is working properly.

I would not add another level of complexity to the issue by trying to learn a VM system (like proxmox) on top of trying to learn Truenas.

Thanks PhilD13, for your support.
I will follow your recommendation.
I also fully agree with your statement not to add another level of complexity.
I have enough to do dealing with truenas.

I will come back with the result. This might help other TrueNAS newbies when facing the same problem.

Update #1: Having connected monitor and keyboard, I was able to select the option “loading 24.04.2.5” and entering the console menu screen.
Selecting option 1 there is only one system shown. Name and IP address is the same as initially set “eno1” and former IP address 192.xxx.xxx.xxx

What kind of option should I select now - edit, delete, create a new network interface, refresh or quit? How to proceed?

Update #2: When I select “reboot” in the console menu screen, I get three messages quickly disappearing somewhat of "FAILED" .... audit.mount. ???

Update #3: Trying to get network access; I was able to connect to TrueNAS in its former version 24.04.2.5 without closing the console menu screen.
Following the “upgrade path” instructions I started the system update to 24.10.2.2 now.
Activity pop-up window is running for about 10 minutes saying
Connecting to TrueNAS ... Make sure the TrueNAS system is powered on and connected to the network. - but nothing happens.

Finally, after about 20 minutes of waiting, it seemed frozen. However, after having rebooted the system to 24.04.2.5 in order to be able to continue my daily work and connecting via network access, II was able to log in in the normal way and entering the dashboard. And the version now shown is … ElectricEel-24.10.2.2!

I am confused! Obviously it worked but after the last reboot I noticed the following fault messages on the screen:
“Failed unmounting var-log.mount” and
“Failed unmounting var.mount

What the hell does that mean? Is that just an information or do I have to do anything?

Although the system is now operatinal once again, I feel a certain uneasiness because I don’t know why the login page doesn’t open during the update and why the two errors appear.
