Trouble with a Fresh Install

I’m having trouble installing the latest stable version of truenas (25.10.4) on a new build. My PC boots up to the blue splash screen and allows me to select install Truenas. After that it’s just a black screen. The only things plugged in to my motherboard are a 10 gig NIC and the nvme in trying to install it on. I’ve flashed isos on to two different thumb drives. Same outcome. Any help at all would be great.

The system I’m trying to install this on:

Intel i5 14500

Asus WS W680-ACE

64GB Corsair Vengeance 6000MHz

250GB Kingston nvme gen4

What 10G NIC?
Something on your hardware is causing the install to hang up. Is your BIOS up to date? It could be your added NIC. You can try removing it for the install and just use the onboard.

It’s a Gtek with intel X550-AT2 controller. I’ll give taking it out a shot when I get back home and let you know how it goes. Thank you

That NIC should be fine. I wasn’t sure what chipset the onboard NIC uses. You can also try disabling the onboard if you have the 10GTek card installed. You can try searching for forum for your motherboard model. Installer getting stuck is usually just trying to figure out what hardware is hanging it up. Sometimes features need to be set to conservative values or disabled in the BIOS. Making sure secure boot is off, etc.

I have the same motherboard (not for TrueNAS) - what bios version are you on? I have a LOT of trouble with a bunch of the bios versions & eventually just gave up & settled on bios 3101

Edit: …this is the second time today that I’ve realized I have a VERY out of date BMC version on one of my motherboards by trying to help someone with an identical board & ended updating my own equipment. Kept BIOS version the same.

Edit 2: Since I have a 12th gen & you have 14th, it might make sense for you to be on latest bios; with that in mind, what are you using to create the boot media for the installer? I also remember that I had some trouble with rufus for TrueNAS unless I checked-off some specific option.

Sorry for the late response, life caught up with me for a couple of days. I’ve stripped down to just the 250Gb nvme and one stick of RAM on the A_2 slot of my motherboard. There is no off option on my secure boot, I’ve got it set to other OS (as opposed to windows uefi) and I’ve tried both custom and standard.

Thanks for the advice, I’m currently on the newest BIOS and ME versions.

I’ve been using Balena etcher to flash the thumb drives (I’ve tried a couple)

Last effort would be to make the boot drive on another system & then move it over to this one, but still feeling it is either install media or bios setting

Set OS Type to Other.

If that doesn’t disable it you may need to Clear Secure Boot keys after setting Secure Boot Mode to Custom as well, but “Other” is typically enough.

Got us up and running! Apparently I needed to use a dedicated gpu for initialization. I pulled the 2080 super out of my personal rig and everything ran smoothly. Thank you three for your ideas, I appreciate the help.
