After Upgrading from TrueNAS 24.10.2 to 24.10.1 I’m still getting the following from nvidia-smi NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running. and have still been unable to use NVIDIA drivers. Tried un…

Circling back, the issue here appears to be that the debug kernel was enabled (System → Advanced → Kernel) - hopefully @Raikyu will confirm shortly after a reboot here that the nvidia driver is properly loaded and claiming all of their cards.

No I was not running a nightly image, I had just installed TrueNAS at the time.

I’m having the same issue: I’m able to install nvidia drivers via the apps menu, but nouveau is claiming my discrete card and midclt call app.gpu_choices | jq only shows my integrated graphics.

Hi, i can isolate my 1050TI but i dont have the driver install modprobe nvidia-current-drm modeset=1 the problem is that i dont have in app/seting the checkbox to install the driver ? what can i do ?

you have to isolate the gpu if you want to pass it through to a vm. If you want to use it with the apps system, it mustn’t be isolated. If it’s not isolated the button to install the gpu drivers should appear. You may have to restart your system.

Hi thank’s for the info. Now when i install the driver i get "Apr 23 09:02:20 truenas kernel: nvidia 0000:02:00.0: vgaarb: VGA decodes changed: olddecodes=none, decodes=none:owns=none Apr 23 09:02:20 truenas kernel: NVRM: The Unknown NVIDIA GF1xx Series GPU installed in this NVRM: system is not su…

you can’t. There currently is no support for the legacy driver, and as far as i know, it’s not planned to support it…

Thank you everyone in this thread! You all helped me solve this issue! When I updated to 25.04, for whatever reason, my GPU was now isolated (exactly as others have mentioned). This occured right after updating Truenas and no other changes were made. Here’s the steps I did to resolve the GPU iso…

Came here to say thanks! Your post was very helpful and solved my problem! Ahoy Open WebUI!! Thanks again

No, after disabling debug kernel (which I don’t know how it was turned on in the first place) was turned off it started working properly.
