Question about fresh installing and restoring on Scale

So currently I have two systems that are on 22.x (Bluefish?) I had been upgrading but stopped when Cobia refused to do replication tasks even after creating the admin user, etc. etc. I forget the exact error.

But in any case, I will be upgrading hardware on the one so plan to try to start fresh. I did a test run and whatever issue I ran into is gone on a fresh install (can pull/push from one truenas to another.) That system was installed fresh with Dragonfish and upgraded to the Electric Eel RC2. I plan to do a fresh install with Electric Eel when it comes out.

My question is- when I install EE fresh and then restore a config from Scale 22.x, does it keep the admin user, etc. or does it revert to using root, etc.? Ideally I’d like to restore the config and it keep the admin account(s) and all that setup so I don’t have to go recreate it, etc. I noted that admin (on 24.04) uses UID 950 (at least on my install) and I don’t have any such UID taken on the existing system so I assume it can at least not step on that upon a restore.

Anyone done this or know the process? Tried looking for the docs but all I can really find is backing up and then a short blurb about restore in the General Settings page.

Answered my own question since I had time to restore a test backup on it.

It does not keep the existing users and writes over all that. So if you do this, you’ll have to recreate an admin user, etc. per the docs. And FYI for anyone coming to this after Electric Eel is out (24.10?) they are pushing separate admin accounts for different purposes so…just make sure you look at the current docs on it. Ie. multiple admin accounts with different privs vs one “admin” account like on Dragonfish or earlier.
