Seagate Exos 10E2400 Series on HCL?

Hi there,
I like to set up a TrueNAS server with 8 Seagate Exos 10E2400 drives
connected to an LSI/Broadcom 9200/9300 Controller.
JBOD as I learned.
Are there any compatibility issues known?

Thanks for your replies,
Thomas

Not with the drives.
Please ascertain what the controller is and what’s the firmware. You do NOT want a RAID controller in JBOD mode.
One of these should return the information:
sudo sas2flash -list
sudo sas3flash -list

ooops … thanks for your reply, etorix.
Sorry, I’ve NO experience in setting up a NAS-Server. Just plans …
Before I’ll buy some hardware, I’ve read this article:
TrueNAS Hardware Guide - Section Storage Controller
What is my misunderstanding? Using HBA without RAID function?

Thank you very much.
Thomas

This may clear it up a bit. I am not sure what you read exactly from the hardware guide. Summing it up might be no hardware based RAID. ZFS wants and needs direct access to the disks.

What’s all the noise about HBA’s, and why can’t I use a RAID controller?

Yes: A plain HBA, and not a RAID controller (“MegaRAID” or the like).
I assumed you already had the hardware. If not, why the 2.5" 10K SAS drives? What’s the intended use?

I’m looking for reliable and fast (write performance) HDDs with 5 years warranty. I don’t like SATA or NL-SAS drives.
The intent is to use the NAS for video projects, pictures and database backups.
