SMB share multiple users, users unable to see files from other users

I am running TrueNAS Scale ElectricEel-24.10.2.1. I would like to create an SMB share that is accessible to two different users. I have created a new credentials group with only those two users. The group has the “SMB Group” option checked.

I then created a new dataset with owner root, and group is set to my new group. Both owner and group have full permissions. Other has no permissions.

The share is set as a “Private SMB Datasets and Shares” purpose. There is no share ACL set.

I am able to connect each user to the share, and the users can read/write. However, each user can only see the files that they create. Additionally, in the dataset interface in webui, I can see a folder of each username under the dataset. If I disconnect from the shares, I can delete these using the dataset interface, but they come back when the users connect again.

How do I get the users to be able to see each other’s files?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

This is by design. The ‘Private SMB Datasets’ is designed to create each user their own private dataset when they first connect. If that’s not what you were hoping for then simple change the share preset back to default.
