Spotlight search

Hi,

year on year, there seems to be the request and now the possibility but yet no howto on how to make spotlight search work.

In theory, the following are needed:

  1. elasticsearch (app available from TrueNAS market)
  2. an index for elasticsearch (fscrawler app available from TrueNAS market)
  3. setting the share to spotlight=yes in the auxsmbconf via cli/sharing smb update
  4. setting the spotlight backend=elasticsearch and elasticsearch:address plus port

My current status is i have 1,3 and fail to connect fscrawler and elasticsearch. I also have no clue on how to add 4 into smb.conf global section permanently.

I fail to find an easy to find community-maintained guide on how to configure the feature that on Synology NAS is requiring an index in Universal Search (one mouse click, essentially).

Am i really the only one looking for this feature to be working? I understand if nobody wants to support it from the TrueNAS team, but shouldn’t the community not care and have at the very least the means to implement it and write a guide about it?

Results from within last year:

If you don’t limit, you see regular requests throughout the years.

Does anyone know already something and can share?

just wait until april next year, when official spotlight support lands

thanks for the hint, really interesting.

However, it seems to me it’s yet another wheel that is reinvented before it is even halfway adopted. What’s wrong about elasticsearch?

That’s something I can’t answer, I don’t have a need for spotlight so I honestly never bothered to look into it

Nothing, truesearch appears to use an elasticsearch backend.
