Hey everyone,
Just discovered I’m having trouble moving/pasting files to any of my various network storage, seemingly out of the blue. Last night I tried to copy some files from my desktop (Linux) to an SMB share on TrueNAS. No matter what folder I tried to paste to, I would get an error in Dolphin, “Access denied. Could not write to smb://user@truenas.local/Media”.
I can access and read everything as normal. Only pasting/moving throws that error. However, I’m still able to save files to this share through my browser and other applications.
Through more testing I also found that I can’t paste anything to other completely unrelated storage devices. I tried moving a file onto my old Seagate Personal Cloud (via SMB) and got the same access denied error. I also tried to paste something to my offsite TrueNAS machine and still no joy.
At first I thought it had something to do with my Syncthing setup, but the Seagate is totally untouched by anything I’m doing with the rest of the servers so I don’t think it’s that. I would imagine that also rules out a permissions problem in TrueNAS. I have changed nothing in my setup between now and the last time I remember copying a file over SMB.
I also tried to move a file from my laptop (also Linux) to the offsite NAS while I was at work and ran into the same issues.
This (and a bit of research) all leads me to believe that something is/has gone wonky with how I access the shares in Linux. My best guess right now is that I don’t have them properly mounted as drives in fstab. I’m just accessing them from the “Remote” section of the sidebar in Dolphin as discovered devices.
Am I on to something with this hunch or am I way off?
